MACWO Joins Somali Humanitarian Consortium, Strengthening Locally Led Action Across Somalia

MACWO has become a member of the Somali Humanitarian Consortium (SHC), joining 15 other Somali-led organisations to strengthen coordination, amplify Somali voices, and deliver more effective humanitarian action across Somalia.

MACWO is proud to announce its membership in the Somali Humanitarian Consortium (SHC) — a national coalition of Somali-led humanitarian organisations united under the shared vision of a more resilient Somalia.

The Consortium brings together 16 Somali organisations working across the country, guided by four core values: local leadership, collaboration, accountability, and lasting impact. Its motto — "Collaborating for a More Resilient Somalia" — reflects a simple but powerful idea: that Somalia's humanitarian future must be built by Somalis, for Somalis.

### Why this matters

For too long, decisions about Somalia's humanitarian response have been made far from Somalia. Funding has flowed through international intermediaries. Local knowledge has been treated as secondary. Somali organisations — closest to the communities they serve — have too often been left at the margins of the sector they know best.

The Somali Humanitarian Consortium exists to change that. By uniting Somali-led organisations into a single, coordinated national platform, the Consortium strengthens the collective voice of Somali humanitarians, amplifies their expertise in national and international decision-making, and delivers more effective, joined-up programming to communities in need.

For MACWO, joining the Consortium is a natural extension of more than a decade of locally led work. From health and nutrition to education, water, food security, gender equality, governance and poverty reduction, MACWO has always put Somali communities at the centre of its work. Being part of SHC means doing that work alongside — not in competition with — our peers.

### What MACWO brings

As a member of SHC, MACWO brings:
- More than a decade of frontline humanitarian experience across Somalia
- A proven community-led approach in nine programme areas
- Deep relationships with local authorities, elders, women's groups and youth networks
- Strong expertise in protection, GBV response, WASH, education and food security

### What MACWO gains

Membership also brings valuable opportunities:
- Closer coordination with 15 other leading Somali organisations
- A stronger collective voice in national and international advocacy
- Shared learning, tools and best practice across the Consortium
- More joined-up programming for the communities we serve together

"Our work has never been about any single organisation," said a MACWO spokesperson. "It has always been about Somali communities and Somali solutions. The Somali Humanitarian Consortium is where that shared commitment becomes concrete — where Somali organisations stand together, coordinate together, and deliver together. MACWO is honoured to be part of it."

Local leadership. Collaboration. Accountability. Lasting impact. Those four values are more than a slogan — they are the roadmap for a humanitarian sector that truly belongs to Somalia. MACWO is proud to walk that road with our fellow Consortium members.

Welcome — and thank you — to all 16 members of the Somali Humanitarian Consortium. Together, we build a more resilient Somalia.
